The National Skills Academy for Social Care has launched the second year of its National Management Trainee Scheme for graduates.

The programme, first tested with 25 people last year, will see a further 25 placed at social care employers across the country and exposed to a variety of roles to build the necessary skills for a management position.

The initiative, the first of its kind in the sector, is open to all recent graduates.

Care services minister Phil Hope said: "I am delighted to be welcoming in a second year of the National Management Trainee Scheme, after the success of the pilot last year. We, at the Department of Health, fully support the scheme as a pioneering initiative.

"Along with other schemes such as the Care First and Care Apprenticeships, it highlights social care as a career choice and gives it the recognition it deserves as a highly rewarding and attractive profession."
