Graduates looking for work can take advantage of a growing demand for interim managers, particularly in sectors such as HR, engineering and retail, new research suggests.
Over the last six months the demand for HR experts has increased as more firms look to manage organisational changes and redundancy programmes, according to Russam GMS.
Daily rate of pay for HR interim managers has risen 11% from £547 in December to £614 in June.
Among the sectors with improved prospects were engineering, where interims saw a 10.5% increase in pay from £451 to £504 a day, retail which saw an 11% rise from £591 to £670, and supply chain and utilities where wages rose by around 20%.
However, interim managers in sales and marketing saw a 14% fall in pay from £608 to £502 a day, those in not-for-profit-sector experienced a 11.7% drop from £521 to £460 day and IT specialists faced a 5.7% dip from £649 to £612.
Charles Russam, chairman of Russam GMS said: "As we are slowly emerging from the recession, we are seeing a sharp increase in levels of interim activity in the market and growth in many sectors."
