Samsung confirms green energy move - graduate jobs

Graduates based in Scotland with an interest in green technology should follow the progress of Samsung Heavy Industries closely, after the Korean firm selected Fife as the base for its first European offshore wind project.

The £100 million investment plan will see new, seven-megawatt turbines tested at the Energy Park in Methil and Samsung bosses said manufacturing could eventually take place at the site.

In addition, David Brown Gear Systems, owned by East Kilbride-based Clyde Blowers, has agreed a deal with Samsung to produce gearboxes for the next generation of offshore turbines.

Development agency Scottish Enterprise and Fife Council will now work with the company in a bid to bring gearbox assembly and blade manufacturing work to the area.

Insik Roh, chief executive of Samsung, said: "We are pleased to be participating in the development of the Energy Park at Methil at such an exciting time for the Scottish renewable energy industry."
