About I & H Brown

From small beginnings more than half a century ago, I & H Brown has grown into a diverse and successful family business with wide-ranging interests. We operate five distinct divisions consisting of Civil Engineering, Plant Hire, Development, Energy and Farming and Estates.

Civil engineering remains our core business typically contributing over 90% of annual turnover. We deliver complex projects across a wide variety of sectors including infrastructure, roads, energy, waste and marine. It is our highly skilled workforce and client-focused approach that has seen us continue to expand our operations across the UK.

We are a medium-sized family business that employs around 200 people and has a turnover of around £60 million. We have successfully completed civil engineering projects across the length and breadth of Great Britain. Our policy has always been to take a long-term strategic view and to encourage growth through the reinvestment of our profits.

We believe that our greatest strengths are our flexibility, our diversity and above all our client focus. Although our core business remains civil engineering, we have interests across development, farming and energy. This diverse range of activities provides us with resilience and financial stability.

We value our people because we recognise that our business depends on committed individuals who share the company's ethos and objectives. We invest heavily in training and personal development and we encourage staff to take responsibility and to show initiative.

Being privately owned, we are able to operate a Director-led approach to all aspects of our company. This ensures continuity in all aspects of our work. I & H Brown has never stood still. We are always looking to grow from our current strengths and to keep abreast of industry trends.
