Intergenerational Practice Lead




Belong is a values-based organisation and provides everyone with the opportunity to make a positive impact, promoting active lifestyles, independence and wellbeing for older people.

Belong Chester, our latest state-of-the-art village due to open in February 2022, will provide a range of care, housing and support options for older people, plus a village centre with bistro, hair salon, gym and art studio. As a pioneering concept, the village will also have an intergenerational nursery, designed to offer shared learning experiences and opportunities for children, families and older people.


This is an exciting opportunity to be involved from the start and help to develop the Belong Nursery into a blueprint for intergenerational practice. We’re looking for someone who will be an expert in the field, to lead, create and drive intergenerational strategy across the organisation, with responsibility for:

  • Creating an authentic intergenerational community across all ages, which supports good mental health and wellbeing and establishes healthier places to live.
  • Leading, developing and promoting intergenerational links and relationships with the wider community ahead of the village opening.
  • Promoting a culture of organisational learning in which best practice is shared and disseminated both externally and internally across Belong villages.
  • Effective and efficient intergenerational budget management and coordinating grant applications.
  • Being a positive role model for excellent person, centred customer support and practice and an ambassador for intergenerational care working.


  • To be an expert in the field of intergenerational practice ; leading, creating and driving the intergenerational strategy across all Belong Villages, in partnership with Ready Generations and The Nursery in Belong
  • To create an authentic intergenerational community across all ages; which supports good mental health and wellbeing and establishes healthier places to live with the aim of reducing stress and loneliness.
  • To lead, develop and promote intergenerational links with the wider community in Belong village locations
  • Promote a culture of organisational learning in which best practices are shared and disseminated both externally and internally across Belong villages
  • Be responsible for effective and efficient intergenerational budget management and co-ordinated grant applications
  • Be a visible and positive role model for excellent person centred customer support and practice; an ambassador for intergenerational care working in accordance with Belong standards and values; developing and enabling a culture where people feel supported and valued.


  • Endorse, drive and promote the vision, mission and values of Belong and Ready Generations
  • Draw on knowledge of human cognitive, physical, social and emotional development across the life course to plan and implement effective programmes that bring children, young people and older adults together for their mutual benefit
  • Share research, knowledge and best practice with sector professionals, academics, and associated media/publications in a variety of contexts and disciplines
  • Form positive and enthusiastic partnerships with local communities to ensure the development of new intergenerational initiatives
  • Lead with enthusiasm, focus and momentum, empowering individuals and stakeholders to engage with intergenerational activities in Belong villages.
  • To provide clear, concise written reports in a variety of formats to meet the differing communication needs of partners in the intergenerational work within Belong .
  • Work with partners to develop baseline measures to assess and demonstrate the impact of the new initiatives on health and well being
  • Evaluate the outcomes and impact of intergenerational practice for national publication
  • Work with Belong colleagues to develop training, create intergenerational activity programmes and provide mentorship in intergenerational practice across all villages in line with the strategy document
  • Provide oversight and leadership to drive effective intergenerational activities to bring children, young people and older adults together for their mutual benefit and enhanced wellbeing
  • Contribute to the recruitment, selection and planning of induction for new team members
  • Collaborate with the General Manager to respond to customer feedback about intergenerational programmes and activities in a timely manner HR:\People\recruitment\jobdescriptions\Intergenerational Practice Lead
  • In collaboration with Ready Generations, ensure that all related policies and procedures underpinning effective intergenerational practice are monitored and evaluated in line with the Intergenerational Strategy with a particular focus on safeguarding and infection control


  • Respect and maintain the confidentiality of information at all times in line with Belong expectation
  • Promote and ensure the good reputation of Belong and Ready Generation
  • Carry out appropriate audits and complete and maintain records as require
  • Attend and constructively contribute to meetings relevant to the role
  • Take responsibility for personal professional development and undertake relevant learning and development
  • Ensure that Belong is a safe place to live and work, by following safe practices and responding to emergencies as required
  • Adhere to all policies and procedure
  • Act as a mentor for other team members, supporting their development where required
  • Carry out any other tasks reasonably assigned to you


As well as being someone who is able to take the initiative, create momentum and engender enthusiasm and focus within the intergenerational work at Belong, there are a few other qualities we’re looking for:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to produce papers and reports to academic standards and deliver presentations to professionals.
  • Ability to recognise the aims and objectives for intergenerational activities in adults with dementia specifically.
  • Strong people engagement skills, including coaching and public relations.
  • A customer care focus, with experience in delivering quality outcomes.
  • Experience of creating and leading on new initiatives.
  • You should be educated to graduate level and a Diploma/NVQ in Early Years is preferred, although not essential.
