What you’ll be doing
As a Summer Intern within the Naval Architecture team, based in Rosyth, you will be exposed to various types of vessels, platforms and projects, covering everything from new builds, in service vessels and decommissioning projects. Interacting with live projects present an excellent learning opportunity, a hands on approach is required in many cases. You will work under the direction and mentorship of a Principal Naval Architect experienced in the assigned application. You will have opportunities to collaborate with other team members as well as other areas of business in delivering projects to time and cost. You will be exposed to some unique and exciting software packages which will consolidate your position and understanding of core naval architecture skills. All projects being executed do so with safety as the top priority, you will gain an understanding of how to develop this skillset through practical application. This foundation will allow you to take the next steps into your career.

What you’ll get out of it
During the summer placement, you’ll get the opportunity to work in a department relevant to your degree subject so you can start putting theory into practice. You can expect to work within a team environment on current projects where you’ll have real input and learn how to work safely in a workplace environment.
What you’ll need
- To be in Year 3 (or above) in your studies of a relevant degree in Naval Architecture
- To be able to satisfy the MoD’s security requirements (you may need to complete a medical assessment)
