- Support the drafting of policies and strategies in either one specific area, or across a range of linked policy areas. Defra covers a wide range of policy areas, here are some of our key directorates: Agri-Food Chain; Animal and Plant Health and Welfare; Biosecurity and Food Projects; Environmental Regulations; EU and International Trade; EU Exit Domestic and Constitutional Affairs; EU Exit Overview; Future Farming and Countryside; Marine and Fisheries or Strategy.
- Embrace the team’s shared goals, planning and prioritising your tasks in order to deliver future-defining results.
- Look for innovative approaches to complex challenges. Our success lies in our ability to creatively address multi-faceted problems, so you will seek out the evidence that will help us make the best decisions and drive sustainable change.
- Work with Ministers, senior officials, and external stakeholders to keep them updated on the progress of your challenges and to achieve results that will benefit the population, the environment, and the rural industries.
The Defra Policy team come from a huge array of different backgrounds, so you will not specifically need policy experience or specialist knowledge of your preferred area. What you will have are exceptional team-playing skills, with the proven ability to communicate clearly and work flexibly in a fast-paced environment. With the capacity to quickly understand complex work challenges and identify risks, you will be able to match your organisational capabilities with an innovative mindset.
